FAQs

Explore common questions about Biblical-based marriage mentoring and discover insightful answers to deepen your understanding of how spirituality can enhance your relationship.

What is the difference between marriage mentoring and counseling?

  • Counseling is often led by a licensed therapist and focuses on emotional healing, communication skills, and resolving deep-seated issues.

  • Mentoring is usually done by a more experienced couple who provides guidance, biblical encouragement, and accountability based on life experience and Scripture.

“Where there is no guidance, a nation falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” – Proverbs 11:14

Do we need to be in crisis to get help?

  • Not at all! Many couples seek mentoring or coaching to grow in communication, prevent future issues, or prepare for a new season (like parenting, empty nesting, or retirement).

Are the sessions confidential?

  • Yes, confidentiality is a top priority. Mentors are bound to keeping things private, and reputable mentors also commit to discretion, unless there's an imminent legal or safety concern.

How do I find the right mentor?

Look for:

  • Shared biblical worldview

  • Experience with marriage issues like yours

  • Good reputation or recommendation

  • Someone both spouses feel comfortable with

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17

Will both of us be involved in the mentoring?

  • Both are ideal, but individual sessions can be helpful too, especially if one spouse is hesitant or unavailable at first.  If that is the case check into our coaching options.

How long does the process take?

  • It varies based upon the program that's right for you. The INTENSIVE GETAWAY program is designed to be completed over 3-5, 6-8 hour days. For those who opt for the weekly KINGDOM COUPLES program, couples usually find clarity and healing in the first 7-10 sessions; others benefit from ongoing support which could last another 10-20 sessions, based on the severity of issues. Follow up calls after the mentoring is completed are built into each Program; follow up calls take place usually in the first week, then in 3 weeks following, and finally at the 8-week mark after mentoring.

What if my spouse is not willing to go?

  • This is common. You can still pursue wisdom and personal growth on your own. Often, the change in one spouse can encourage the other to soften over time.  Seek one on one coaching as an option.

“In the same way, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives.” – 1 Peter 3:1

What if they tell us we should get divorced or separate?

  • Biblical counselors and mentors will seek to restore the marriage whenever possible, aligning with God’s heart for covenant love and reconciliation. They may explore hard truths, but the goal is always redemption.  However, if physical abuse occurring, we recommend seeking help and shelter immediately.

What should we expect from our first session?

  • You'll likely share your story, concerns, and goals. The mentors will explain how they can help, set boundaries, and recommend a path forward.
